Pursuant to the Ghana Armed Forces activating Operation BOAFO – a search and rescue operation to assist civil authorities, including the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), as a result of heavy downpour experienced in Southern Ghana, the Navy has despatched some of its boats, for quick response operations in the Central Region. It would be recalled that after heavy downpour in parts of Southern Ghana, various parts of its capital, Accra, experienced floods at some suburbs, leading to the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Army, responding to salvage lives and property.
Over the weekend, there has been equally excessive downpour in the Central Region resulting in flooding and leading to the loss of one life and the submergence of hundreds of residences and the destruction of a major bridge.
The Ghana Navy, with the help of the Air force and NADMO, thus deployed forces to rescue victims of flooding at Elmina and have successfully saved lives and property, to the joy of the local authorities in particular and the people, generally. Operation Boafo is ongoing in various areas where persons and property may be in distress.
