Ghana Navy’s Director, Naval Training – Naval Captain (Capt GN) Dennis KA Eghan and the Danish Defence Attaché (DA) to Ghana – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Lasse Sand, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Commander, Kenya – Navy Brigadier Lawrence Gituma, at the Kenya Navy Headquarters (KNHQ), Mtongwe.The visit, on Wednesday, 29 June 2022, aimed at benchmarking on the existing training programs at the Kenya Navy Training College (KNTC) as provided for by the Maritime Cooperation Agreement between Kenya and Denmark.
The two toured the Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS) and the Firefighting Multi-purpose Unit at the KNTC. They were also briefed that, through the Maritime Cooperation Agreement, the two facilities at the KNTC offering International Maritime Organization model courses have seen the College upgrade to a Regional Centre of Excellence for training of Maritime Security Personnel. The two leaders visited the Kenya Navy Clearance Diving Unit (CDU) where they were briefed on their operations.Officer Commanding (OC) the CDU – Major Rashid Mohammed indicated that the support from the Danish government has been instrumental for the Divers’ training for mission readiness within the maritime space.
Present during the tour were KNHQ Chief of Operations – Colonel (Col) Michael Atodonyang, KNHQ Chief of Logistics – Col John Khaoya, Commandant, KNTC – Col Mohamed Adan, KN Danish Liaison Officer – Col Gaard, Commanding Officer (CO), Kenya Navy Base, Mtongwe – Lt Col Dickens Kombo and CO, Kenya Navy Ship Jasiri – Lt Col Collins Owino.
