The newly appointed Indonesian Defence Attaché (DA) to Ghana, Colonel Aslam Setiawan, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, at the Naval Headquarters on Thursday 20 August 2026.
Colonel Aslam, who also serves as Indonesia’s DA to Nigeria, has assumed additional responsibility for Ghana and used the visit to strengthen engagement with the Ghana Navy and explore areas of mutual interest. Rear Admiral Bessing welcomed and congratulated him on his new appointment.
Discussions between the two focused on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in the maritime domain, with particular attention to maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, as well as training and capacity building. Colonel Aslam commended the Ghana Navy for its role in promoting security in the region.Rear Admiral Bessing, on the other hand stressed on measures Ghana Navy continues to undertake to protect Ghana’s maritime domain and maintain security within its area of responsibility. He also assured the Indonesian DA of Navy’s readiness to support areas of mutual interest and facilitate further engagement between the two countries.
