The Western Naval Command (WNC), the Naval Logistics Command (NAVLOC), and the Navy Fleet jointly celebrated the 2025 West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) on Friday, 19 December 2025, at Naval Base Sekondi, gathering Senior Officers, Officers, Ratings, Defence Civilian Staff, Corporate Partners, and stakeholders to promote esprit de corps and unity.
The Flag Officer Commanding, WNC, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, in his welcome address, highlighted WASSA’s crucial importance in uplifting morale and nurturing a strong sense of community. He also applauded personnel’s unwavering resilience and resolve in enhancing maritime security and tackling piracy.
As the Guest of Honour, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, commended the Navy’s exemplary vigilance and professionalism in safeguarding offshore assets. He further acknowledged that their sustained dedication has positioned Ghana’s maritime domain as one of the safest in the region despite ongoing security challenges.
In a fitting culmination of the celebration, outstanding personnel received awards and citations for exemplary service. Additionally, Enterprise Life Insurance supported this by donating eight 43-inch television sets to the Award Winners, underscoring the value of recognition in driving excellence across the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Armed Forces.
