The Naval Headquarters, in collaboration with the Riverine Command, held the 2025 End-of-Year West Africa Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) on Thursday, 8 January 2026, bringing together personnel and key stakeholders to formally close the year’s activities in a ceremonial and convivial atmosphere.
The event attracted a distinguished gathering, including the Guest of Honour and former Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, and the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, alongside Generals, Defence Attachés, Senior Officers, Officers, Ratings, Defence Civilian Staff and other dignitaries.
In his remarks, the Chief Staff Officer (CSO), Naval Headquarters, Commodore Ben Baba Abdul, described WASSA as a cherished tradition that fosters unity, loyalty, and dedication within the Service. He noted that the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the past year’s achievements while strengthening the bonds of comradeship that sustain the Ghana Navy, and he commended personnel for their unwavering commitment to duty.
Delivering his address, the Guest of Honour, Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, lauded the Ghana Navy for the significant progress recorded over the period. He expressed appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for the continued retooling of the Armed Forces, noting its importance to maritime security within Ghana’s territorial waters and the wider Gulf of Guinea.
The programme featured weapons stripping and assembling competitions, interactive engagements, and moments of merrymaking, reinforcing teamwork, professionalism, and esprit de corps. Leading Seaman Bamfo Emmanuel and Able Seaman Class 1 Wiafe Mavis emerged as the winners in the male and female categories, respectively, of the weapons stripping and assembling competitions. Additional awards were presented to Petty Officer Class Two Afful Kwesi Eric as Best Senior Rate, Able Seaman Class 1 Atiah Confidence as Best Junior Rate, and Mr Mingle Samuel as Best Defence Civilian Staff, while the CNS Special Award was conferred on Chief Petty Officer Class One Agyari Samuel in recognition of exemplary service.
William and Benjamin Solutions (WB Solutions) also made a presentation of appliances to the Ghana Navy as a gesture of appreciation for the cordial working relationship and sustained collaboration between the company and the Ghana Navy.
