Sub Lieutenant (S/Lt) Emmanuel Sebastian Dorgbetor, who is also the Reverend Father of St Catherine Catholic Church, Burma Camp, together with a group of friends and supporters, donated classroom desks to selected basic schools under the Akatsi South Municipal Education Directorate on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
The donation exercise, held at the Akatsi Roman Catholic Basic School in Akatsi under the theme “Sit a Child, Change a Life,” formed part of a fundraising initiative following the launch of his three inspirational books, “Something Good in Everything I Hope For,” “Something Good in Everything I Do,” and “Something Good in Everything I See.”The initiative sought to improve teaching and learning conditions by addressing the shortage of classroom furniture in basic schools across the municipality, thereby creating a more conducive environment for academic work. Rev Fr S/Lt Dorgbetor described the gesture as his personal contribution towards advancing United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education, noting that meaningful and lasting change could begin with individual effort.Addressing the beneficiary students, he urged them to honour the gesture through discipline, diligence, and a steadfast pursuit of excellence. He emphasised that education remains a powerful tool for personal growth and national development, encouraging them to regard the desks not merely as furniture, but as platforms upon which their future would be built. The Municipal Director of Education, Mr Karim Ayaana Umar, commended Rev Fr S/Lt Dorgbetor and his supporters for the initiative and appealed to other individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture. He stressed that bridging gaps in educational infrastructure requires sustained and collective effort from all stakeholders.
