Students of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM) Senior Leadership and Staff Officers Course 2/2024 led by the Commandant Major-General Wisdom Benjamin Etuk, on Wednesday 11 September 2024, visited the Naval Headquarters.
The Commandant was received by the Chief Staff Officer, Commodore Bright Kojo Atiayao in his office where they discussed matters of mutual benefit to both countries. During the meeting, Major General Etuk noted that the visit, which formed part of an African Study Tour to Cameroon, Uganda and Ghana, was under the theme: "Enhancing National Security through Regional Cooperation for Socio-Economic Development".
He said, as a critical component of the curriculum for the students, the visit was also intended to provide them with firsthand exposure to other African nations' cultural, political and socio-economic environments.
Later, at the Owusu Ansah Hall at the Naval Headquarters, Director of Naval Operations, Captain (GN) Ebenezer Kwame Yirenkyi made a presentation on the topic “Maritime Security and Regional Cooperation in Safeguarding Ghana’s Maritime Domain “. The presentation is part of a broader effort to enhance maritime safety and security of the Gulf of Guinea which has been a focus for both national and international stakeholders due to its strategic importance and the challenges posed by piracy in the region.
Critical areas covered in the presentation included the causes of maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea, the overall impact of maritime security in the region, regional initiatives to address the challenges as well as efforts by the Ghana Navy in addressing maritime insecurity.
Major General Etuk expressed his gratitude to Captain Yirenkyi for the presentation, emphasising its importance to the students while urging them to reflect on the content.
