Twenty (20) students from the Rwandan Defence Force Command and Staff College Course 13, led by Colonel (Col) Corneille Emile Nkundimana, paid a visit to the Naval Headquarters (NHQ) on Tuesday 11 February 2025.
The visit forms part of an international study tour to Ghana, which seeks to provide the students an opportunity to undertake in-depth study of the history, defence, security, geopolitics and the socio-economic development of Ghana.
The group was welcomed by the Chief Staff Officer (CSO) of NHQ, Commodore (Cdre) Bright Kodjo Atiayao and was briefed on the existing relationship between Ghana and Rwanda.
Director of Operations and Training at NHQ, Captain (GN) Ebenezer Kwame Yirenkyi made a presentation to the students detailing the role Ghana Navy plays in safeguarding its maritime domain. The presentation covered areas related to maritime security including environmental pollution, narcotics and illicit drugs, plastic waste, maritime terrorism and its overall effects on the sub-region.
The team was also briefed on the organisational structure and roles of the various departments at the NHQ.The students later toured Ghana Navy’s Biekro Museum.
Col Nkundimana expressed gratitude to Captain (GN) Yirenkyi for the presentation offered and urged the delegation to use the content of the presentation as points of reference in their specific fields of study.
The occasion saw the exchange of plaques. Cdre Atiayao also presented customized Ghana Navy Kente stoles to Col Nkundimana and some members of the delegation.
