The Danish Government has presented two new Toyota vehicles to the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) of Ghana Navy at its Headquarters on Friday 21 February 2025.
This venture, forms part of a partnership between Denmark and Ghana aimed at enhancing maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
The Danish Ambassador to Ghana, Tom Norring in his remarks said the Ghana Navy has received significant support from the Danish government as part of a trilateral agreement aimed at developing the SBS into an elite force in addressing maritime security threats particularly in the Gulf of Guinea.
“The SBS paved the way for increased cooperation with their will to learn and develop,and they can take huge credit for leading the way for the developments’’ , he added.
Ambassador Norring further revealed plans were far advanced to construct a state-of-the-artswimming pool at the Naval Training Command in Nutekpor in the Volta Region which would serve as an asset for both the SBS and the Navy at large.
On his part, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu who received the vehicles on behalf of the SBS, emphasized the significant role played by the Danish government in enhancing the SBS’ capabilities, revealing their support had been pivotal in transforming the SBS into a highly trained and effective unit enabling them to conduct complex operations.
‘’The Danish government has consistently demonstrated its commitment to supporting our effort to build a more capable and resilient maritime force for the challenges we face on the Gulf of Guinea”, he reiterated.
The CNS expressed appreciation to the Ambassador and the Danish Defence Attaché to Ghana, Colonel Lasse Sand for their significant contributions towards the SBS and Ghana Navy entirely.
As part of the programme, a dummy cheque was presented to Lieutenant Commander Jemima Yeboah of the 37 Military Hospital by Col Lasse Sand to pursue a four-year Bachelor of Science
Degree programme in Underwater Medicine, sponsored by the Danish government for supporting the SBS through specialized medical care.
