The Western Naval Command (WNC) has held a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of an ultramodern auditorium on Thursday, 9 April 2026, at the Naval Base Sekondi. The one-thousand-seater auditorium is expected to be a hub of training, a centre of collaboration, and a symbol of progress.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, for his inspiration and guidance. He thanked the CNS for granting the WNC the approval and support to undertake the project.
He added that the ceremony was beyond a groundbreaking event, but rather symbolised the laying of a foundation for growth and the strengthening of institutional capacity. He noted that the project reflected a firm work commitment to equip personnel with facilities that would enable them to operate effectively, train efficiently and engage meaningfully.
The FOC reiterated that the Auditorium would enhance the Command's capacity to host conferences, workshops, ceremonies, and joint operations briefings and serve as a platform for collaboration, bringing together stakeholders from across the security sector as well as international partners.
Commodore Ayelazono thanked individuals and corporate entities who had contributed towards the project. Notable among them are: GOIL Ghana for providing the seed money for the project; K. Nyame Enterprise, Coastal Quarries, GHACEM, B5 Company, and Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly. He reminded Officers, Ratings and Defence Civilian Staff of the Command that the project belonged to all, and urged them to take ownership and work collectively to see it through to its completion.
In his remarks, the Director of ‘Only One Day Construction Limited,’ the project Contractor, Mr Henry Dwomoh, expressed appreciation to WNC for the confidence and trust reposed in the company to award them such a contract. He pledged the company’s readiness to execute the project to the highest standards, with timely delivery and open communication. He informed personnel of WNC to expect an auditorium that would make them proud.
Present at the ceremony were the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Logistics Command (NAVLOC), Commodore Eric Osei, the Superintendent Naval Shipyard, Commodore Roger Bagonia, Flag Officer Fleet (FOF), Naval Captain John Bekuin-Wurapa, and representatives of various corporate entities, among others.
