PROFILE OF CDRE MAXWELL ARHEN

Commodore Maxwell Arhen was commissioned into the Ghana Navy Executive Branch as a Sub-Lieutenant on 20 August 1993. He proceeded to the Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC), Dartmouth, in the United Kingdom for the Royal Navy Young Officers Basic Course from September 1996 to April 1997. On return home he was posted to the fleet as a Watching Keeping Officer onboard Ghana Navy Ships YOGAGA and ACHIMOTA. He subsequently proceeded again to the Britannia Royal Naval College in September 1998 for the International Sub-Lieutenant Course. Commodore Arhen was appointed as the Executive Officer (2I/C) of the Fast Patrol Boat, GNS SEBO in 2001. He later held command on the same ship from 2006 to 2007.

In his career, Commodore Arhen has held many staff and command appointments in both national and international settings. His staff roles include Assistant Director Naval Training (2002-2003); Military Observer with UN Monitoring Group in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) (2003-2004); Commanding Officer, Ghana Navy Basic Leadership and Training School (2004-2005); Member of Directing Staff (DS), Ghana ...Read More Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) (2007-2012); Deputy Force Training Officer –MONUSCO (2009-2010); Directing Staff, Armed Forces Command & Staff College, Nigeria (2012-2014);

Chief Instructor, Naval Faculty Ghana Armed Forces Command And Staff College (2014-2016). The Senior Officer attended the US Naval War College from July 2016 to June 2017. On return home, he was posted to the Naval Headquarters as Director Administration in August 2017 to January 2020. Commodore Arhen was promoted in January 2020 and appointed as the Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC); an appointment he has held till date and has just been appointed as the Chief Staff Officer (CSO) at the Navy Headquarters.

Commodore Arhen has also pursued other military staff and career courses and participated in seminars and workshops including the following: Junior Staff Course in South Africa (1999); Senior Staff Course at the GAFCSC (2004-2005) which had modules comprising strategic military studies, International Peace Support Operations, Maritime Operations and Internal Security Operations; Naval Staff Course, Newport, Rhode Island, USA (2007); Military Observer and Peacekeeping Course at the Pearson Peacekeeping School, Canada (2002); DS training Course at Shrivenham, UK (2010).

Commodore Arhen is a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences (Geography and Economics- Nov 89). He also holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Affairs from the Legon Centre for International Affairs, University of Ghana (31 Jul 06).

The Senior Officer is married with 4 children. He plays football and at his spare time loves to take a walk.
