The Director of Gulf of Guinea Interregional Network (GOGIN), Mr Sam Megwa, on Thursday 26 September 2024, held a strategic meeting with the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu at the Naval Headquarters, Accra.

The purpose of the meeting was to brief the CNS on the transition of Yaoundé Architecture Regional Information System (YARIS) operations to the Gulf of Guinea (GOG) region, to seek the guidance and support of the CNS for a smooth handover.

The initiative is part of efforts to enhance maritime security and regional cooperation through the YARIS platform, facilitating information-sharing among maritime law enforcement agencies.

Rear Admiral Yakubu emphasised Ghana’s commitment to enhancing regional security through the installation of Intelligence Reconnaissance Surveillance (ISR) systems with the Navy as the primary controller. The CNS also revealed that the ISR capabilities are expected to bolster national security agencies thereby addressing potential risks.

Mr Megwa expressed his profound gratitude to the CNS for the warm reception during his visit, reiterating the significance of the collaboration in enhancing maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
