The Deputy Director Hydrography and Geodetic at the Naval Headquarters, Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cdr) Ambrose Yankey on Monday 16 December 2024, delivered a lecture to students of the University of Ghana's (UG) School of Psychology.
The lecture focused on the customs and traditions of the Ghana Navy, Ghana’s Maritime domain, the threats to Ghana's Maritime security and the roles played by the Ghana Navy.
Lt Cdr Yankey began by delving into the rich customs and traditions of the Ghana Navy, which dates back to 1959. The students were fascinated by the origins of naval traditions such as crossing the line, man and cheer ship amongst others.
He also discussed the Ghana Maritime domain, highlighting its significance to the country's economy. The students were enlightened on the various threats to Ghana's Maritime security, including piracy, Illegal Unregulated and Unreported fishing and drug trafficking amongst others.
The Head of Department at the School of Psychology, Professor Adote Anum and other staff of the department jointly expressed their profound gratitude to the Ghana Navy for honouring their invitation.
The lecture was engaging, informative, and provided the students with a deeper understanding of the Ghana Navy's customs, traditions, and role in protecting the country's maritime domain. The students were grateful for the opportunity to learn from the experienced naval officer and appreciated the insight into the Ghana Navy's rich history and traditions.
