The British Minister for the Armed Forces, Honourable James Heappey, MP, has decorated the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu and the first Female seagoing Commanding Officer of the Ghana Navy, Lieutenant Commander Priscilla Dzokoto, with the Britannia Royal Naval College Medal. The two Ghanaian Naval Officers are products of the prestigious Britannia Royal Naval College in the United Kingdom.
The Minister, who is in the country to cement the existing cordial relations between the United Kingdom Armed Forces and Ghana, commended the Chief of the Naval Staff highly for his exemplary leadership and contribution towards the fight against piracy and threats at sea. He also congratulated Lieutenant Commander Dzokoto for being the first female seagoing Commanding Officer in the Ghana Navy, a feat achieved through hard work and dedication. He encouraged her to continue to prove to the world that females can also lead in a male dominated field.
Honourable James Heappey, MP, took the opportunity to visit the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre Zone F located at the Osu Castle where he received first hand briefing on the activities and operations of the centre in combating crimes at sea. He was met at the centre by the Director, Naval Captain Yirenki who briefed the team extensively on their operations and challenges.
