The Centre for Coastal Management–Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (CCM-ACECoR) at the University of Cape Coast has strengthened its collaboration with the Ghana Navy to advance coastal research and protection efforts, marking a renewed phase of cooperation between the two institutions.
The engagement took place during a courtesy visit by the Acting Director of CCM-ACECoR, Precious Agbeko Mattah, and her delegation to the Naval Headquarters on Tuesday, 24 March 2026.
Professor Mattah explained that the centre has been in operation for nearly fifteen years and continues to research coastal zone challenges across Ghana. He noted that the institution monitors coastal ecosystems to support conservation efforts and promote the sustainable use of marine resources.
The Chief Staff Officer at the Naval Headquarters, Ben Baba Abdul, who received the delegation on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Godwin Livinus Bessing, welcomed the initiative. He stated that the collaboration reinforces the Ghana Navy’s mandate to safeguard the nation’s maritime domain and assured the centre of the Navy’s full support for its research and coastal protection initiatives.
