The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, has shared his vision and strategic direction for the Ghana Navy with participants of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) 48.
The CNS was engaging participants on Monday 19 October 2026, at Hamidu Hall as part of their professional military educational course.
Speaking on the Navy’s vision for 2030, Rear Admiral Bessing said the Service would be transformed into a resilient, adaptive and globally responsive arm of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The CNS highlighted the modernisation of the Naval Shipyard, improvement of hydrographic services and expansion of maritime surveillance systems as key priorities stating that efforts were underway to improve the Shipyard’s maintenance and repair capabilities, while partnerships were being explored to support its development and strengthen local shipbuilding capacity.
The CNS identified training infrastructure, overseas training opportunities and specialised courses as essential to preparing personnel for emerging maritime security challenges. He stressed that human capital development, professionalism and innovation would remain central to the Navy’s transformation.
Rear Admiral Bessing urged participants to promote cooperation with other navies and regional security institutions and maritime agencies. He said multinational exercises and coordinated operations within the Gulf of Guinea would strengthen intelligence sharing, improve interoperability and enhance collective responses to maritime threats.
