The Eastern Naval Command (ENC), in partnership with Viva Health Medical Foundation and the Tema Youth Association, organised a free medical outreach and community sanitation exercise at Tema New Town on Saturday, 25 July 2026.
The activity held ahead of the Homowo Festival aimed to strengthen civil‑military relations while promoting preventive healthcare and improved environmental sanitation.
Residents received free medical consultations and screenings, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, malaria, hepatitis B, HIV tests, mental health education, basic laboratory investigations, and guidance on disease prevention and healthy living. Patients needing further care were stabilised on-site and referred to the ENC Sickbay or other appropriate health facilities for further assistance. At the same time, personnel of the Eastern Naval Command joined residents in a clean-up exercise by desilting gutters and removing refuse from major streets to improve drainage, reduce flood risk and create a cleaner environment.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr Carl Nutsugah, Co‑founder of Viva Health Medical Foundation and ENT Specialist at the 37 Military Hospital, said the outreach is designed to make healthcare services accessible and free to the community. He noted that comprehensive screening, consultations and medications were provided, with serious cases stabilised before referral for continued management.
Speaking on behalf of the Flag Officer Commanding ENC, the Command Operations Officer, Commander Lucas Xose Kofi Ocloo, emphasised the Command’s commitment to supporting Tema New Town ahead of the Homowo festival. He noted that maintaining a clean and healthy environment is a shared responsibility and encouraged residents to join clean‑ups and take advantage of routine health screenings. He further said sustained civil‑military collaboration builds healthier, safer and more resilient communities.
