The Deputy Director for Plans and Strategic Integration (J5) at United States (US) Africa Command (AFRICOM), Brigadier General Shawn Holtz, on Wednesday 28 August 2024, paid a working visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, at the Naval Headquarters.

The meeting focused on deepening the partnership between US AFRICOM and the Ghana Navy, building on existing collaborations in training, logistics, and intelligence-sharing, and exploring ways to enhance maritime security and counter-piracy efforts.

Rear Admiral Yakubu in his remarks expressed Ghana Navy's commitment to enhancing security cooperation with the US, highlighting the need for joint efforts to address evolving security challenges in the region.

The CNS highlighted the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation within the Gulf of Guinea, citing its critical role in maintaining regional security and facilitating global trade. He assured the Deputy Director J5 at US AFRICOM of the Ghana Navy’s continuous collaboration in achieving regional security objectives.

Brigadier General Holtz on his part expressed appreciation for the continued partnership, emphasising the need for strengthening regional security through cooperation and capacity building. He praised the Ghana Navy's efforts in maintaining maritime stability in the Gulf of Guinea.
