Short Service Commission (SSC) and Special Duty (SD) Intake 62 have completed their Basic Naval Officers Training (BNOT) at the Western Naval Command (WNC) on Friday, 4 September 2026. The training was designed to provide the officers with practical exposure to naval operations and enhance their understanding of the operational environment in which the Ghana Navy operates. It also marked an important transition in their professional naval careers as they prepared to assume greater responsibilities.
Delivering his remarks as the Guest of Honour, the Flag Officer Fleet (FOF), Naval Captain John Bekuin-Wurapa, commended the officers for their perseverance, commitment and dedication throughout the course.
Naval Captain Wurapa urged the officers to lead by example and recognise that wearing the naval uniform represented a position of trust. He stressed that their individual conduct would have implications not only for themselves but also for the image and reputation of the Ghana Navy.
He encouraged the officers to allow the experiences they acquired during the course to shape them into disciplined and responsible leaders.
The FOF also expressed appreciation to the Staff Officers, Commanding Officers and Ships' Companies who contributed to the successful conduct of the training. He acknowledged their guidance, supervision and mentorship in preparing the officers for the responsibilities ahead.
The course covered a wide range of subjects and practical activities, including military leadership, naval traditions and customs, maritime operations, physical fitness, Operation Sea Guard, escort duties, boarding exercises and survival-at-sea training.
The training further exposed the officers to essential aspects of naval service aimed at strengthening their operational knowledge, leadership skills, discipline and readiness for deployment.
