The United States (US) Government, through its Navy Construction Battalion (US Navy Seabees), in collaboration with Ghana Navy, has commissioned and handed over a newly 3-unit classroom block to the Galotse District Assembly Basic School District, Sogakope on Wednesday 22 January 2025.
The classroom block, which is second of its kind, by the US Navy Seabees, reflects the ongoing collaboration between Ghana and US in improving local infrastructure and education.
The initiative also forms part of their strong partnership, and shared commitment towards community development.
The Deputy Head of Mission at the US Embassy in Ghana, Mr. Rolf Olson prior to the commissioning, paid a courtesy call on the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Commodore (Cdre) Solomon Asiedu-Larbi.
FOC NAVTRAC expressed his gratitude to the US Navy Seabees for their support and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of their continued partnership which forms part of their shared Corporate Social Responsibilities.
In his remarks, Mr. Olson reaffirmed the US’ commitment to being a dependable partner, stressing their country will continue to support community development efforts in Ghana.
Mrs. Celestine Kosi Agodo, the District Director of Education, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the US Embassy and its Navy, Ghana Navy, traditional leaders, and teachers for their collective efforts in working together in ensuring the students receive quality education.
Cdre Asiedu-Larbi noted that the relationship between Ghana Navy and Navy Seabees dates back to the late 1990s and early 2000s, when the Seabees constructed medical centres (sickbays) at the Western and Eastern Naval Commands.
He thus, lauded the US Government for their unwavering support for Ghana Navy and their continued contributions towards development during the commissioning ceremony.
