The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah has commissioned a modern naval infrastructure, comprising a luxurious 20-unit three bedroom villas and a Naval Base (NB) Headquarters block at Sekondi.
The two separate ceremonies, which took place at Apollo and the Sekondi Naval Base on Sunday 22 December 2024, was attended by high-ranking Senior officers, representatives from Ghana Gas, Messr Supremo Construction Company and other dignitaries.
The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, who read the address on behalf of the CDS, emphasised the importance of providing comfortable and modern accommodations for personnel, as well as enhancing the operational efficiency of the Ghana Navy.
Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah stated that the commissioning of the Naval Villas and the Naval Base Headquarters block is a testament to the government's commitment to retooling and equipping the Ghana Armed Forces. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of Ghana Gas in the acquisition of the facility for the Ghana Navy. He also commended the CNS for his foresight in ensuring the welfare of his men.
The CDS urged the personnel of the Ghana Navy to make good use of the new facilities and to continue working tirelessly to defend the nation's interests.
The villas, named after the renowned CNS, is designed to provide luxurious and comfortable living quarters for naval officers and their families. The 20-unit three bedroom villas are equipped with modern amenities, including spacious bedrooms, state-of-the-art kitchens, and good drainage systems.
The Sekondi Naval Base Headquarters block, on the other hand, is an ultra-modern regulating office designed to serve as the nerve center of the Ghana Navy's operations.
