The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) William Agyapong, has commended Ghana Navy for its continued support for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Special Needs Project. He made the remarks when the Chief Staff Officer at the Naval Headquarters, Commodore Ben Baba Abdul, paid a courtesy call on him on Tuesday 18 August 2026 at Burma Camp.
The Special Needs Project is an initiative of the CDS, which is designed to provide structured, inclusive education tailored specifically for children with special needs for military families.
During the visit, Sub Lieutenant Rebecca Owusu, a Senior Midwifery Officer at the 37 Military Hospital, who is author of the books “When Life Says No, Say Yes to Yourself" and "Overcoming Life’s Challenges as a Man”, donated 50 per cent of proceeds from the launch of her books at Burma Camp, to support the project.
Lieutenant General Agyapong commended Sub Lieutenant Owusu for the kind gesture, describing it as a meaningful contribution towards improving educational opportunities for children with special needs within families of military personnel.
The CDS stressed that her contribution marked a second gesture by Naval personnel in fulfilling the worthy cause, following a swimming expedition by Leading Seaman Akutor Sarah Precious who undertook a 3.1 km (1.67 nautical miles) endurance swimming from Busua Beach to Abokwa Island in support of the initiative.
Lt Gen Agyapong further called for the collective support of GAF personnel to sustain the initiative in order to achieve its intended purpose.
