A delegation from the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), comprising members of its Executive, paid a familiarisation visit to the Ghana Navy Shipyard Complex at Naval Base Sekondi. The visit, which took place on Friday, 4 September 2026, formed part of efforts to strengthen professional collaboration and explore areas of mutual interest between the Ghana Navy and the engineering institution.
It also provided an opportunity for the delegation to interact with Officers, Senior Rates and Ratings of the Shipyard Complex following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between GhIE and the Complex. The agreement seeks to foster cooperation between the two institutions and facilitate the professional development and licensing of Ghana Navy Engineers to enable them to practice as professional engineers.
Receiving the delegation, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Logistics Command,Commodore Eric Osei, expressed appreciation for the visit and underscored the importance of collaboration between the Ghana Navy and professional engineering institutions. He noted that partnerships of this nature were essential to advancing technical expertise, professional development and innovation within the Navy.
The Commodore Superintendent, Naval Shipyard, Commodore Roger Bagoniah, explained that the Shipyard Complex played a critical role in maintaining the Ghana Navy's operational readiness through the maintenance and repair of naval vessels and associated equipment. He added that collaboration with GhIE would contribute significantly to knowledge exchange, professional development and the enhancement of engineering capabilities among naval personnel.
The President of the GhIE and leader of the delegation, Engineer Ludwig Annang Hesse, commended the Ghana Navy for its contribution to national security and maritime development.
He reaffirmed the Institution’s commitment to promoting professional cooperation and creating platforms for the exchange of knowledge and expertise between engineers in the civil and military sectors.
As part of the visit, the delegation participated in an interactive session with Ratings at the Harry Seshie Drill Shed. The session provided an avenue for both sides to engage in discussions on engineering innovation, technical training, and professional development, while identifying potential areas for further collaboration.
