The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Stephen Billins Nyam, has engaged the FOC Naval Logistics Command (NAVLOC), Commodore Eric Osei and some retired lecturers of University of Cape Coast through separate meetings.
Both engagements aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Ghana Navy and strengthening institutional collaboration, respectively.
The FOC WNC paid a courtesy call on the FOC NAVLOC at the NAVLOC Headquarters in Takoradi, where he was received with a quarter guard mounted in his honour before being welcomed by him. The latter congratulated him on his assumption of office and wished him success in his new role.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two FOCs to discuss matters of mutual interest, particularly logistics support, naval vessel maintenance and ongoing projects. Emphasis was on the importance of effective maintenance systems and efficient logistical support in sustaining the operational readiness of naval vessels and improving the Service's operational effectiveness.
In a separate engagement, a group of retired lecturers from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) paid a courtesy call on Commodore Nyam at Naval Base Sekondi. The visit provided an opportunity for the retirees to familiarise themselves with the activities and historical significance of WNC.
As part of the visit, the retired lecturers presented an undisclosed amount towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Exhibition Centre, which showcases the history, operations and contributions of the Ghana Navy to maritime security and national development.
Commodore Nyam expressed appreciation to the retirees for their visit and generous contribution, noting that the Exhibition Centre serves as an important platform for preserving the Service's history and educating the public on its achievements and contributions.
The engagements underscored the importance of collaboration within the Ghana Navy's command structure and partnerships with the academic community in strengthening operational readiness, supporting institutional development and promoting public appreciation of the Service's contribution to national development.
