The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) participated in the 2026 Tema Kpelejoo Festival alongside the chiefs and people of Tema, celebrating the city’s rich maritime heritage and strategic geographical significance. The vibrant ceremony took place at Tema New Town on Saturday, 12 April 2026.
Addressing the gathering, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) ENC, Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi, highlighted Tema’s global importance as the closest landmass to the intersection of the Equator and Prime Meridian. He recalled the historic Ghana Navy voyage to Latitude 0° and Longitude 0° in the Atlantic Ocean south of Tema, emphasising how this unique feature anchors the city’s identity and positions it as a hub for maritime tourism and national pride.
The FOC also called for peace, unity, and mutual respect among residents and visitors. He urged the community to maintain harmony during the festivities, reaffirming the Ghana Navy’s commitment to safeguarding stability. Commodore Asiedu-Larbi stressed that the festival should foster togetherness and cultural appreciation.
The Member of Parliament, Tema East, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, commended the chiefs and people for preserving their cultural heritage. He underscored the value of unity and development, encouraging residents to capitalise on Tema’s maritime position to attract investment, boost tourism, and enhance livelihoods. The MP reaffirmed his dedication to infrastructure and socio-economic initiatives in the constituency.
