Fleet Chief Petty Officer Class Two (FCPOII), Johnson Isaiah Chriss, has assumed command as Master Coxswain of the Ghana Navy in a colourful ceremony which took place at the Naval Headquarters on Monday, 27 April 2026.
The ceremony featured a symbolic transfer of responsibility between Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO) Ayelvae Lawrence and FCPOII Johnson, marking a key transition in leadership among the Ratings and reinforcing the Ghana Navy’s commitment to continuity and operational effectiveness.
In his address, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, stated that leadership transitions reflect continuity, discipline, and sustained commitment to duty, which are essential for maintaining operational effectiveness.
He further noted that MCPO Ayelvae had consistently demonstrated strong commitment and dedication through the diligent discharge of his duties over the years, upholding standards, fostering cohesion, and enhancing operational efficiency.
The CNS charged FCOPII Johnson to uphold the Navy’s code of honour and discipline while applying his experience to enhance operations, deepen leadership impact, and contribute to the development of the Ghana Navy and the nation at large.
In his farewell remarks, MCPO Ayelvae expressed gratitude to the CNS for entrusting him with the responsibility to serve as Master Coxswain and expressed confidence in FCPOII Johnson as his successor. He commended the Ratings and Defence Civilian Staff for their support and urged them to remain professional, dedicated to duty, and committed to the continued service of the Ghana Navy.
The CNS presented a vehicle on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and the Military High Command to MCPO Ayelvae. He also received a citation, a plaque, cash donations from the NHQ and the various Commands, an 85-inch television, and a fridge in recognition of his service and contribution to the Ghana Navy.
