Ghana's Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Commodore Bright Kojo Atiayao, has paid a visit to Ghana Navy Ship (GNS) PRU following its successful arrival at the Nigeria Defence Jetty in Lagos ahead of the Nigerian Navy's International Fleet Review (IFR) and Maritime Exercises.
The visit formed part of efforts by the Defence Attaché to welcome the ship and interact with the crew as they prepare to participate in activities marking Nigerian Navy's 70th Anniversary celebrations.
Commodore Atiayao was received on board by the Commanding Officer of GNS PRU, Lieutenant Commander Joshua Hughes Addison, and other senior officers of the ship. During the visit, he commended the crew for their professionalism and successful voyage from Ghana to Nigeria.
The Defence Attaché encouraged the officers and ratings to continue exhibiting high standards of discipline, professionalism and dedication throughout the period of the exercise, noting that they were representing not only the Ghana Navy but also the Republic of Ghana on the international stage.
He further underscored the importance of the International Fleet Review in strengthening maritime cooperation, enhancing interoperability and deepening the longstanding relationship between the Ghana Navy and other participating navies.
Lt Cdr Joshua Hughes Addison expressed appreciation to the Defence Attaché for the visit and support, assuring him of the ship's readiness to actively participate in the fleet review and related maritime exercises.
GNS PRU, which sailed from Naval Base Sekondi on Thursday, arrived in Lagos on Friday, 29 May 2026, and was warmly received by officials of the Nigerian Navy. The ship is among several foreign naval vessels participating in the International Fleet Review at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront as part of celebrations commemorating the Nigerian Navy's 70th Anniversary.
The event is expected to bring together naval forces from various countries to promote international maritime collaboration, showcase naval capabilities and strengthen partnerships among participating nations.
