Ghana Navy Ship PRU (GNS PRU) participated in the 2026 Nigerian Navy International Maritime Exercise (IMEX) and Fleet Review, held at the Eko Atlantic City Waterfront in Lagos on Monday 1 June 2026.
Fleet reviews are ceremonial events where ships from a particular navy are paraded and reviewed by officials or Head of State and military dignitaries. The IMEX and Fleet Review was held as part of activities celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.
GNS PRU joined 27 other ships, of which 23 belonged to the Nigerian Navy and the remaining 4 belonged to the Brazilian, Ivorian, Cameroonian and Benin Navies, to showcase military prowess. In all, 28 ships participated in the Fleet Review.
In a single line formation, the crew of GNS PRU, alongside other participating ships, waved their headgears and gave three-hearty cheers as they sailed past the dais where Senior Officers, government officials, guests, and dignitaries were seated. GNS PRU and other ships were flagged off as part of the Combined Maritime Task Force to commence scheduled Maritime exercises and sea patrols.
The Anniversary Celebrations also saw the commissioning of 3 new vessels acquired by the Nigerian Navy. They are the Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) MAMBILA, NNS GURARA, and NNS OLOIBIRI.
This year’s Nigerian Navy International Maritime Exercises and Fleet Review formed part of their efforts to strengthen international collaboration and demonstrate its capabilities. It highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing maritime security and cooperation with other countries.
