A delegation from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), South Tongu Command, has delivered an educational talk on illicit drugs and trafficking for personnel of the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) on Friday, 13 March 2026, at the School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS) Auditorium, Nutekpor.
The sensitisation programme was organised to raise awareness among personnel on the growing threat of illicit drug use and trafficking, and to enhance their understanding of the role of law enforcement agencies in combating the menace.The presentation covered several key areas, including an introduction to the Commission and its mandate, an overview of drugs and drugs of concern, as well as the various types and categorisation of drugs. Participants were also taken through the effects of drug abuse, common modes of concealment used in trafficking, and the legal ramifications associated with drug-related offences.In her remarks, Assistant Narcotics Control Officer Phidelia Attiogbe encouraged personnel to remain proactive in identifying and reporting suspicious activities related to drug trafficking. She stressed that collective efforts by security agencies and the public are essential in addressing the challenges posed by illicit drugs and in safeguarding communities.Also speaking at the programme, the Training Coordinator, Naval Captain (Capt GN) David Dela Kpetigo, expressed appreciation to the delegation from the Narcotics Control Commission for the insightful presentation. He noted that such engagements are essential in broadening personnel’s understanding of contemporary security threats and encouraged personnel to apply the knowledge gained in the discharge of their duties.
