The Naval Headquarters, in collaboration with the Riverine Command, organised a health walk and fun games as part of the 2025 End-of-Year West Africa Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, to promote physical fitness, esprit de corps, and collective well-being among personnel.
The Health Walk, which covered a distance of 5.4 kilometres from the Nicholson Sports Centre in Burma Camp to the Laboma Beach Resort, brought together Officers, Ratings, and Defence Civilian Staff in an exercise that reinforced endurance, teamwork, and operational fitness.
A variety of competitive and recreational activities were featured during the fun games, including draft, chess, poker, snooker, ludu, oware, football, volleyball, lime and spoon race, sack race, and tug of war. These activities provided personnel with an opportunity to unwind, build camaraderie, and strengthen interpersonal bonds outside the formal work environment, while encouraging healthy competition and unity across departments.
In his remarks, the Chief Staff Officer (CSO) at the Naval Headquarters, Commodore Ben Baba Abdul, representing the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, congratulated all participants for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
He encouraged personnel to sustain their hard work and commitment to duty, stressing that regular health walks and physical activities are essential to maintaining fitness, mental alertness, and discipline, which are core attributes required for effective military performance.
Personnel were grouped into four teams for the competitions, with the Naval Administration /Policy and Plans team emerging as the overall winners of the Fun Games. Able Seaman Class 1 Azure Regina and Able Seaman Class 1 Ankamah Grace were adjudged Best Female Participants of the competition.
