A 2-day Basic Counselling Cadre for Appointment Holders was held at the Owusu Ansah Hall, Naval Headquarters from Wednesday 10 to Thursday 11 May 2023.
The Cadre was organized to aid personnel develop inter-personal and technical skills, in order to provide professional assistance and guidance in resolving challenges among personnel at the workplace.
The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, who was the guest of honour for the opening ceremony, said the success of every institution depends on the quality of its human resource. By this, the CNS was optimistic that the Basic Counselling Cadre would equip participants with the requisite skills needed to deal with varying challenges associated at the work place.
He mentioned that the Cadre was a laudable initiative geared towards the development of the personnel of the Ghana Navy stressing that it would render guidance to personnel upon the adoption of a modern and intuitive approach in addressing challenges.
The cadre highlighted on Basic Counselling and related topics such as mental health, suicide, psycho-social issues, anger management and counselling techniques.
Director Religious Affairs at the Naval Headquarters, Commander David Benedict Quayson, stated that due to some challenges faced by personnel at the workplace, it was imperative a Counselling Cadre was organized to keep personnel in appointment abreast of precise and contemporary effective approach to deal with any form of challenges. He further stated that the Cadre’s objective is to equip participants with advanced knowledge and result-oriented counselling abilities.
Present were experts from the Therapy and Wellness Center of the 37 Military Hospital, and Department of Religious Affairs, Ghana Armed Forces. Also present was the Chief Staff Officer Commodore P Modey, Flag Officer Commanding Riverine Command, Captain (GN) BB Abdul, Directors at the Naval Headquarters and personnel of the Navy.
