The Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) has joined the South Tongu District Assembly, other security agencies, and residents of Sogakope to participate in the National Cleaning Exercise on Friday, 10 July 2026, in Sogakope.
The exercise, undertaken in line with a directive from the Government of Ghana to promote environmental sanitation and improve public health, brought together personnel from various institutions to clean selected streets, markets, drains, and other public spaces within the municipality.
Personnel of NAVTRAC actively participated in the exercise by desilting choked drains, clearing weeds, sweeping public areas and collecting refuse, demonstrating the Command's commitment to environmental cleanliness and community service.
The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) NAVTRAC, Commodore James Adongo Agambire, reaffirmed the Command's commitment to supporting national initiatives that promote community development and public well-being. He noted that beyond its core mandate of training, NAVTRAC remains committed to civil-military cooperation and will continue to participate in activities that positively impact the communities within its operational area. He encouraged personnel to uphold the values of service, discipline, and environmental responsibility both within the Command and in their respective communities.
In her remarks, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for South Tongu, Ms Victoria Dzeklu, commended the security services, corporate organisations, and residents for responding to the national call for environmental cleanliness. She stressed that sanitation is a shared responsibility and urged members of the public to maintain clean surroundings at all times rather than relying solely on periodic clean-up exercises.
Also addressing participants, the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Tongu lauded the collaborative effort demonstrated by the Assembly, the security services, and community members. He noted that a clean environment is fundamental to the socio-economic development of the district and encouraged citizens to sustain the momentum by making environmental cleanliness a daily habit.
The exercise served to strengthen civil-military cooperation and reinforce the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe environment. It also forms part of ongoing nationwide efforts to improve sanitation and foster environmental consciousness across the country.
