The newly appointed Western Regional Fire Service Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Class One (ACFO I) Cecil Addo, has paid a courtesy call on the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, at the Command Headquarters in Sekondi.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, was to introduce himself to the FOC following his formal appointment and to engage with key stakeholders ahead of his maiden meeting of the Western Regional Security Council.
Welcoming the Regional Fire Service Commander, Commodore Ayelazono congratulated ACFO I Addo on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure. He emphasised the longstanding relationship between the Western Naval Command and the Western Regional Fire Service, noting that close collaboration between the two institutions remains vital in responding effectively to emergencies within the region.
The FOC further reaffirmed the Command's readiness to support the Fire Service whenever required. He observed that although fire outbreaks are less frequent in the Western Region, the Western Naval Command remains committed to assisting whenever needed.
Commodore Ayelazono also underscored the importance of sustained public education and sensitisation on fire prevention. He recalled previous engagements during which personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service conducted fire safety awareness sessions for naval personnel and expressed the hope that such collaborative initiatives would continue and be further strengthened.
For his part, ACFO I Cecil Addo expressed appreciation to the FOC for the warm reception and highlighted the importance of engaging key institutions and stakeholders as he settles into his new role. He noted that the visit allowed him to gain a better understanding of the activities of the Western Naval Command and to identify areas of mutual interest and cooperation.
The Regional Fire Service Commander further assured the FOC of his commitment to strengthening the existing partnership between the Western Regional Fire Service and the Western Naval Command. He expressed confidence that through effective collaboration and coordination, both institutions would be better positioned to prevent, manage and respond to fire emergencies and other related incidents within the region.
