Naval Headquarters (NHQ) and the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the Ghana Navy jointly hosted the First Quarter Non-Denominational Religious Parade at the Naval Base in Tema on Sunday, 26 April 2026.
Held under the theme “Gratitude for Divine Preservation and Commitment to Faithful Stewardship,” the event united Officers, Ratings, Defence Civilian Staff, and families in a gathering of thanksgiving, reflection, and recommitment to service. It also doubled as a farewell and thanksgiving service for personnel of Batch 62 (BT 62), who are set to retire after nearly three decades of exemplary service to the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Director, Naval Religious Affairs, Commander David Benedict Quayson, delivered the sermon, urging personnel to remain grateful for divine preservation amid their years of resilience, sacrifice, and faith. He advised the retiring members to stay steadfast in their post-service lives, emphasising that their contributions endure and should positively influence their families, communities, and the nation. Commander Quayson further stressed discipline, commitment, and spiritual growth as core pillars of naval service.
In his address, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, expressed appreciation to the Command for their dedication during the first quarter of the year. He reaffirmed the importance of gratitude expressed through action, unity of purpose, and professional excellence. The CNS further disclosed ongoing efforts to enhance operational capability through the acquisition of additional maritime assets, including patrol boats, interceptors, and unmanned aerial systems, which are expected to significantly improve surveillance and response operations within Ghana’s maritime domain.
The Guest of Honour, Commodore Emmanuel Ayensu Kwafo, described the service as a moment of corporate worship and reflection, highlighting the Navy’s achievements in safeguarding national waters, supporting coastal communities, and responding to maritime emergencies. He commended personnel for their professionalism and resilience in executing their mandate, and encouraged them to remain guided by faith, discipline, and a shared sense of purpose as they navigate emerging security challenges.
The parade also featured intercessory prayers and the inauguration of new executives of the Naval Wives Association (NAWA), with a call on members to serve with humility and unity. In attendance were the Flag Officer Commanding ENC, Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi, the Member of Parliament for Tema East, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Principal Staff Officers from NHQ, as well as other distinguished guests and sponsors.
