The School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS) held a closing ceremony for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) Advanced Course 26 on Friday, 29 May 2026, at the SMOPS Auditorium, Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Nutekpor.
The course brought together participants for intensive training designed to enhance advanced operational knowledge and practical competencies in visit, board, search and seizure procedures. The programme focused on improving boarding techniques, tactical planning, team coordination, operational safety and decision-making during maritime interdiction operations.The training also sought to strengthen operational readiness and promote regional cooperation in addressing maritime security challenges. Participants were equipped with skills to support efforts against piracy, smuggling, illegal trafficking and other transnational maritime crimes that threaten safety and security at sea.Addressing participants at the closing ceremony, the Guest of Honour and Second-in-Command of SMOPS, Lieutenant Commander Nana Yaw Ofori-Boateng, commended them for their commitment, discipline and professionalism. He urged them to apply the knowledge acquired and continue fostering teamwork and cooperation in their respective units.The ceremony marked the successful completion of the course, with participants recognised for their dedication and active involvement throughout the training. The programme forms part of SMOPS’ ongoing collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to strengthen maritime security capacity and professionalism.
