Tullow Oil Plc, a leading oil and gas exploration company, has donated a suite of maritime equipment to the Western Naval Command Command (WNC) to support their operations on Friday 12 July 2024 at the premises of the Flag Officer Fleet (FOF).
The FOF, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono who received the donations on behalf of Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu and the Flag Officer Commanding, WNC, Commodore Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo, thanked the delegation from Tullow Oil for the kind gesture.
He called for the continuous collaboration between the Ghana Navy and Tullow Oil since it had existed over a decade. Commodore Ayelazono emphasised that maritime security kept evolving and it was imperative for them to be a step ahead of the enemy, therefore such sophisticated gadgets would help achieve that purpose.
He seized the opportunity to advice fisher folks to stay away from the oil rigs which in his view was not only dangerous to their lives and property but very disruptive to the oil drilling processes and could cause the industry to lose revenue.
He urged other corporate organisations to emulate the kind gesture of Tullow Oil in retooling the Ghana Navy to keep the maritime domain safe for their legitimate businesses to also thrive and boost the blue economy.
On his part, the Head of Logistics at Tullow Oil, Mr Samuel Kwesi Dickson lauded the collaborative efforts between Ghana Navy and Tullow since the company started operations in Ghana. He noted that it was in light of the satisfactory service and support delivered by the Ghana Navy and an improved relationship between them that had led to the presentation.
Mr Dickson stated that through the collaboration, management of Tullow had observed that there was the need to beef up off-shore security services and therefore expressed satisfaction that the equipment donated would boost and enhance the Ghana Navy’s offshore operations.
The Representative of Government of Ghana at Tullow Oil, Nana Ayisi Prah said that the collaborative efforts between Ghana Navy and Tullow Oil had gone a long way in safeguarding Tullow's operations. He noted that the two factions would continue to support each other and the items presented was a token of appreciation for the good working relationship between them. He added that more of such gestures should be expected in the future.
The items presented were state of the art fragmented jackets, ballistic armoured plates, deflatable live jackets, submersible marine radio and ballistic helmets.
