The Ghana Navy on Friday, 21 July 2022 held a successful passing out parade for the Basic Training Batch 83, at the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) located at Nutekpor- Sogakope in the Volta Region.
The Recruits comprising 342 males and 95 females, duly underwent 26 weeks of intensive, vigorous but standard comprehensive military and basic naval training, to prepare them both physically and mentally for the execution of their roles in the Navy.
The new sailors at the ceremony, elegantly displayed their skills by showcasing series of drills to mark their successful completion of the six months training.
The Reviewing Officer of the parade, Principal General Staff Officer at the Ministry of Defence, Commodore Samuel Agyenim Boateng, commended the young sailors for their tenacity, discipline and efforts put into the completion of their basic training. He urged them to be patriotic, uphold professionalism, and be responsive to operational exigencies.
He further entreated them to take their physical training and education seriously whilst in the service since this plays important role in their career progression and development. The Reviewing Officer also wished them a thriving sail as they journeyed into their career.
Cdre Agyenim Boateng also used the occasion to caution parents and relatives to desist from pushing the young sailors to engage in debt collections and illegal activities on their behalf. He noted these could hamper the career of the young sailors and also bring disrepute to the prestigious name of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Awards were presented to some deserving Recruits for their performance throughout their training. Recruit Issaku Ishawu was adjudged the overall best while Recruit Arthur Pius Leonard was adjudged the best in academics.
