The Western Naval Command has held its first quarter religious service on Sunday, 12 April 2026, at the Harry Seshie Drill Shed, Sekondi Naval Base. The service, held under the theme “Finishing the Assignment With Honour,” brought together personnel from the Western Naval Command (WNC), Naval Logistics Command (NAVLOC), Headquarters Fleet and other distinguished dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Guest of Honour, who is also the Senior Manager, South-West of MTN Ghana, Mr Prince Owusu Nyarko, noted that the theme spoke not only to duty but also to destiny. He emphasised that everyone had been entrusted with a divine responsibility by God. He further stated that reflecting on the sermon, three key principles clarity of purpose, discipline and commitment, and dependence on God—were essential in enabling personnel to accomplish their assignments. The Guest of Honour also congratulated the retirees of Basic Training Intake 62 (BT-62) of the Ghana Navy and their families for their dedicated service to the nation over a period spanning more than three decades.
In his remarks, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, underscored the importance of faith, stating that the Ghana Armed Forces could not function effectively without divine guidance, hence the institution of quarterly religious services. He urged personnel to submit to God, commended the retirees for their honourable service, and encouraged those in active service to emulate their example.
Special prayers were offered for the retirees of BT-62, and a minute’s silence was observed in honour of their fallen comrades.
Delivering the sermon, the Guest Preacher, Rev Dr Joseph Anderson—Senior Pastor of Agape Chapel International and President of Joe Anderson Ministries—emphasised that honour is earned through the life one lives. He noted that one’s actions, whether good or bad, have lasting implications, including on future generations, and therefore urged personnel to live purposeful lives grounded in faith.
In the Islamic homily, the Imam at Eastern Naval Command, Lieutenant (GN) Alhassan Yusif, encouraged the congregation to uphold sincerity in their intentions with Allah in all aspects of life.
Dignitaries present at the event included the former Commandant of Ghana Armed Forces Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Rear Admiral Eric Adu, President of the Retired Naval Officers Association (RENPA), Commodore Albert Kakra Addison, Flag Officer Commanding NAVLOC, Commodore Eric Osei, Flag Officer Fleet, Captain (GN) John Bekuin-Wurapa; Commanding Officers of various ships, as well as Senior Officers, Officers, Ratings, Defence Civilian Staff, and members of the general public.
