The Association of Retired Naval Officers (ARNO), Wives Association of Retired Officers (WARNO) and the Retired Naval Personnel Association (RENPA) have paid courtesy calls on the newly appointed Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Stephen Billins Nyam, on Thursday 10 September 2026.
The visits, although undertaken separately, shared a common objective of congratulating the new FOC on his appointment, welcoming him to the WNC and strengthening the longstanding relationship between the retired naval community and the serving Navy.
During their respective engagements, the associations expressed their willingness to continue serving as a reservoir of experience and institutional knowledge to support the Ghana Navy, particularly in areas where the expertise of retired personnel could complement the efforts of serving personnel.
The delegations also used the opportunity to share their perspectives on issues of mutual interest and to assure the FOC of their continued support as he assumed responsibility for the leadership of the WNC.The FOC, in response, expressed appreciation to all associations for the gesture and for their continued interest in the affairs of the Ghana Navy. He acknowledged the invaluable contribution of retired officers and personnel to the development of the Service, and noted that their experience, knowledge and institutional memory remained important assets to the Navy.
The FOC further emphasised the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between serving and retired personnel, explaining that the Navy's institutional strength was built not only on the efforts of those currently in uniform but also on the contributions of those who had served before them.He therefore encouraged the associations to maintain their engagement with the Command and to continue offering constructive advice and support where necessary.
