The French Military Cooperant at the French Embassy in Ghana, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Pierre Surville, paid a courtesy call on the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Stephen Billins Nyam, on Monday, 7 September 2026.The visit was led by the outgoing and incoming 2 Garrison Education Officers, Lieutenant Colonel Saviour Hadjah and Major Theophilus Twumasi Assumang, respectively.
The courtesy call provided an opportunity for the Liaison Officer and the leadership of the 2 Garrison Education Centre to engage the FOC on matters relating to French language education and the importance of strengthening collaboration to promote the teaching and learning of French within schools under the Garrison.
The engagement also highlighted the relevance of French language proficiency to personnel and students, particularly in enhancing communication, cultural understanding, and relations with French-speaking countries.
Following the courtesy call, Lt Col Surville visited the French Language Centre, where he interacted with students and engaged them in an educational session. During the interaction, he encouraged the students to take their French studies seriously and develop a sustained interest in the language.
The visit formed part of efforts to strengthen relations between the French Embassy and the 2 Garrison Education Centre, while promoting French language education among students within the Ghana Armed Forces educational system.
Lt Col Surville was accompanied by the French Coordinator at the French Embassy, Mrs Noa Rouillard.
