A delegation from the Gender Affairs Office of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has organised an orientation on the Instructors’ Guide for the Gender Training Manual at the Eastern Naval Command on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. The session aims to equip instructors to deliver standardised gender education across all training levels.
The Gender Advisor to the Chief of the Defence Staff, Group Captain Theodora Agornyo, highlighted that the manual mainstreams gender perspectives throughout GAF units and institutions, fulfilling obligations under international and national legal frameworks while significantly enhancing operational effectiveness and institutional performance.
She stressed that gender training goes beyond mere compliance, aiming to transform military culture, address disparities, and foster inclusive professional environments that fully leverage the capabilities of all personnel for greater mission success.
Major Joshua Barnie Oduro delivered a lecture on the strategic value of gender mainstreaming, outlining the manual’s objectives and implementation strategies.
Gender Advisor to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Naval Captain Cecilia Amoo-Welsing, reinforced that gender mainstreaming remains a permanent institutional priority within the GAF. Additionally, she urged all instructors to fully integrate the principles of the Gender Training Manual into every training curriculum, ensuring comprehensive knowledge transfer and lasting cultural transformation across the Services.
