The India High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Mr Manish Gupta has paid a courtesy call on the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo on Thursday 18 July 2024.
The FOC held fruitful discussions with the High Commissioner and provided an overview of the Western Naval Command's operations, highlighting its strategic importance in safeguarding Ghana's territorial waters, combating piracy, and ensuring maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. He enumerated some of the challenges faced by the command and the efforts undertaken to modernise and strengthen their naval capabilities.
Commodore Kwafo noted that, Ghana had always valued its relationship with India and they were keen to explore opportunities for collaboration in naval training, joint exercises, and sharing of best practices.
He expressed his gratitude to India for their support and stressed on areas where Ghana could benefit from India's expertise, such as advanced naval technologies and capacity building.
On his part, the High Commissioner expressed his appreciation and spoke about India's commitment to fostering strong bilateral relations with Ghana, particularly in the areas of defence and security. He emphasised the importance of maritime cooperation between the two nations, given their shared interest in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
He was confident that the two nations will continue to build on the foundation of mutual respect and collaboration, adding that, his visit had not only reinforced the existing ties but also paved the way for future endeavours in maritime cooperation in ensuring that the waters of the Gulf of Guinea would be safer.
They exchanged gifts as a sign of appreciation.
Present at the meeting were the Flag Officer Naval Logistics, Commodore Eric Osei, Flag Officer Fleet, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono and Senior Officers.
