A 6-month Ghana Maritime Maintenance Technician Course 2024 held for seventeen personnel of the Ghana Navy at the School of Marine Engineering and Combat Systems (SMECS) came to a successful completion on Thursday 1 August 2024 at the Sekondi Naval Base.

Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo, in an address commended the Government of the United States and the implementing agency Sincerus Global Solutions for organising the programme. The FOC also thanked the facilitators and all stakeholders for the programme's success.

Commodore Kwafo further lauded the participants for their dedication and active engagement during the course and urged them to use the skills acquired in the areas of Basic Machinery, Environmental Responsibility and Hull Preservation, Basic Information Technology, Basic Electrical and Electronics, Human Rights and the Law of Armed Conflict to help in the day-to-day operations of the Ghana Navy.

He reminded them that real work would start at their various posts and asked participants to strengthen contact with their facilitators to enhance continuous learning.

In his welcome address, the Commanding Officer, School of Marine Engineering and Combat Systems, Commander Callistus Kuuboma Kommoldomo acknowledged the importance and significance of the training and how it would go a long way to help personnel and strengthen the capabilities of the Ghana Navy to ensure the efficient upkeep of the country’s maritime assets.
