The School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS) has completed a two-week Simulator Instructors’ Course at the Lil May Didriksen Simulation Centre to equip personnel with the requisite skills, knowledge, and competence to effectively conduct simulator-based training and undertake basic maintenance of simulator equipment. The course commenced on Monday, 2 March and ended on Friday, 13 March 2026 at the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Nutekpor.
In his remarks, the Lead Instructor and Second-in-Command (2IC) of SMOPS, Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cdr) Yaw Achiaw Owusu-Danso, outlined the objectives of the course, stating that it seeks to create a pool of simulator-trained instructors that the Ghana Navy can rely on to conduct simulator training. He added that the course is also intended to develop experts who can, in turn, train other simulator instructors, as well as establish a cadre of simulator technicians capable of diagnosing and repairing simulator malfunctions.He further commended the participants for their commitment and enthusiasm throughout the training period. He noted that their active participation, discipline, and willingness to learn had contributed significantly to the success of the course, encouraging them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to enhance training delivery within their respective units.The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) NAVTRAC, Commodore James Adongo Agambire, engaged with the instructors and technicians to commend them on the successful completion of the course.The course forms part of ongoing efforts by NAVTRAC to enhance professional training and build the technical capacity of personnel through the use of modern training technologies.
