The Danish Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Tom Norring, in a bid to strengthen partnership between Denmark and the Ghana Navy visited the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, on Wednesday 23 April 2025.
In an interaction with the CNS, the Ambassador reiterated Denmark's support for the Ghana Navy mentioning, the establishment of the state-of-the-art Maritime Simulation Centre at the Naval Training Command, among other key accomplishments.
He stressed Denmark's continued collaboration with the Ghana Navy in strengthening maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, thus providing training support and equipping the Navy’s Special Boat Squadron to help tackle threats at sea.
Mr Norring further revealed plans to establish a Peace and Stabilization Programme aimed at preventing the spillover risk from the Sahel regions. He said the initiative is part of Denmark's long-standing engagement with the Horn of Africa region and demonstrates Denmark's commitment to regional stability.
Rear Admiral Bessing, on his part, expressed appreciation for the Danish support, stating that it has significantly enhanced Ghana's maritime security capabilities. He highlighted the importance of the partnership between Denmark and the Ghana Navy and its benefits in ensuring regional maritime security.
He was accompanied by the Defence Attaché, Colonel Lasse Sand, during the visit. A plaque was presented to the Ambassador to bolster the existing relationship between the Navy and Denmark.
