The Ghana Military Academy (GMA) commissioned 256 new officers into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) during a grand graduation parade at Whistler Barracks, Teshie. This included 47 officers for the Ghana Navy from Regular Career Course (RCC) Intake 64 and Short Service Commission/Special Duties (SSC/SD) Intake 62.
The newly commissioned officers completed rigorous months of military training, leadership development and character formation at the Academy. The ceremony featured traditional elements such as precision drills, guard inspection, slow and quick marches, the oath of allegiance, and the formal donning of ranks.
His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana and Commander-in-Chief of the GAF, served as the Reviewing Officer. He praised the Military High Command and GMA instructors for producing disciplined, professional and mission-ready officers dedicated to national service.
The President urged the new officers to uphold integrity, courage, loyalty and professionalism in their duties. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equipping the Ghana Armed Forces to effectively tackle emerging security challenges facing the nation and the region.
The Ghana Navy shone brightly with Junior Under Officer Abayateye Alex Kojo earning the Chief of the Naval Staff’s Award (Sextant Award) for Best in Naval Warfare and Operations and the Military Cane Award for top distinction in Military Studies. These 47 new naval officers will help bolster maritime security and national defence operations.
The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing and other distinguished dignitaries were in attendance.
