The Western Naval Command (WNC), with the support of Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP), has planted palm seedlings on portions of naval lands at Brisco, Essikado and Adiembra in Sekondi as part of efforts to prevent encroachment and generate revenue for the Command.
In a brief meeting at the WNC Conference Room, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, highlighted the importance of protecting military lands from encroachment through productive utilisation.
He noted that the Command remained committed to adopting innovative measures to secure its assets while creating opportunities that would benefit the Command in the future. The FOC expressed appreciation to BOPP for its willingness to support the Command on the project.
The Acting General Manager of BOPP, Mr Kwasi Baah Ofori, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the company's commitment to providing the technical expertise required for the successful establishment and management of the plantation. He stated that the project would contribute to sustainable land use and strengthen cooperation between the two institutions.
Following the meeting, officials from WNC and BOPP proceeded to the project site at Brisco, where a symbolic planting of the first oil palm seedling was done by the FOC WNC. The ceremony signified the official commencement of the project, paving the way for the planting of about 460 seedlings.
